DOHA: Rents for residential units are being increased at certain areas of Doha due to different reasons, reported an Arabic daily on Wednesday.

According to real estate experts, land price and  interference of middle men play a major role in rent increase.

Yousuf Al Aje, a real estate representative said: “There is an increase in house rent basically due to the increase of land price. High land prices from the beginning of this year and negative role played by real estate brokers are reasons for rent increase.”

He said that people rent villas, make partitions and rent out for more people without considering any safety measures, while the rent also differ from one place to another. Mohamed Nuzmeen, Marketing Director at Al Mansoora Real Estate Group said: “There are enough residential units available, yet the rents are increased. In some places rents are increased  by 10 percent for tenants who are living there for a longer period.”

“However, according to law, house owners cannot increase rent as they wish,” he said.

According to another representative of real estate industry business is likely to increase by December as many new big government projects are due to begin in the country. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2012 says that rent has dropped along with fuel and energy expenses.
