DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning is sitting pretty over a proposal to build abattoirs in different parts of the country for the past four years, Al Sharq reports quoting some unnamed members of the public representative body, Central Municipal Council (CMC).
There was chaos at the abattoirs of the Central Livestock Market (that are managed and operated by Qatar Meat and Livestock Company popularly known as Mawashi) on the first day of Eid Al Adha on Friday because the few slaughterhouses there are not able to cope with the huge rush for slaughtering sheep for sacrifice, the daily said.
Quoting CMC members, the daily added that the Council had four years ago forwarded recommendations to the municipal minister for building abattoirs across the country so as to prevent crowds descending on the central market slaughterhouses during festivals like Eid Al Adha.
The proposal was approved but the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has been sitting pretty over it and no steps have been taken even to identify plots of land for the purpose, said the daily.
