DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) said yesterday that one of the two Qataris tested positive for MERS — Middle East Respiratory Syndrome — recently had fully recovered and was discharged from hospital on Sunday.
The other patient — a 71-year-old Qatari — is “MERS-COV negative,” said an SCH statement.
“The previously confirmed MERS-CoV case (Qatari, 71) which was announced on October 11 is MERS-CoV negative.
However, he is receiving supportive treatment at Intensive Care Unit because of complications,” said the statement in English. The Qatar News Agency also reported that the patient is still being treated at Intensive Care Unit. The report, however, didn’t say he was “MERS-negative”.
The 43-year-old Qatari who was admitted to Hamad General Hospital on October 20 has been discharged after recovery, said the SCH. All contacts, including patient’s relatives, friends, and healthcare workers who handled the case, have tested negative for the deadly virus, it added.
They have been informed about MERS-CoV signs and symptoms, including fever, cough, or shortness of breath  and advised to avoid contacts with affected animals or camels.
They have also been asked to watch for symptoms for 14 days and visit the nearest health facility if they develop them,  said the statement. The Peninsula
