Doha: With the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in full swing and as world records continue to fall in the incredible competition, Qatar’s Sara Masoud aims to mimic her success in the 2014 Asian Para-Games where she won a gold medal in shot put F33.
Masoud, 29, competes in the discus throw and shot put F33 events and took home gold in both during the Asian Para-Games 2014 in Incheon, South Korea. More recently, Masoud placed second in the IPC
Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing in April 2015 in both events ahead of some of the best athletes in the region.
The Qatari athlete will only compete in the shot put event in the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships, which are slated to continue until 31st October. Masoud faces stiff competition in Doha with UAE Paralympian Thuraya Al Zaabi also competing in the women’s shot put event.
Speaking before her competition Masoud said: “In athletics you only depend on yourself – on your strength, technique, speed, movement and your scream! I call on everyone to cheer us on so that we can make Qatar proud.”
Also competing on the 28th October is Great Britain’s Aled Davies in the Men’s Discus F42, who has already won gold in the shot put in Doha, and Cuba’s Omara Durand in the Women’s 100m T112 Final.
Other notable athletes competing on the 28th include Yiwan Lang from China in the women’s discus throw F55 and Michal Mateusz Derus from Poland in the men’s long jump T47.
Numerous world records have already been broken in this exhilarating World Championships. The 26th was a particularly stellar day for Arab athletes with Walid Ktila and Raoua Tlili winning their second gold medals each for Tunisia and Abdelillah Mame of Morocco winning a shock gold ahead of team-mate and pre-race favourite El Amin Chentouf, who finished third.
Raoua Tlili won gold in the Women’s shot put F41, having previously won gold in the Women’s discus F41 with a new world-record last Friday.
