DOHA: Nurses from Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC’s) eight hospitals recently participated in the First Acute Pain Management Study Day to know about the latest evidence on pain assessment and management and on the advanced techniques used to control pain in adults, children and chronically ill patients.
Organised by HMC’s Acute Pain Management Services (APS) Department in collaboration with the Anaesthesia Department and the cancer transformation team, the study day provided expert advice to nurses on the timely assessment and management of pain in patients. “Nurses spend more time with patients than any other healthcare professional and have a special role to play in managing their patients’ pain, especially after surgery,” said Atef Al Tawafsheh, Advance Clinical Nurse Specialist, APS at HMC.
The day-long event, held at the Club Hotel in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, saw 135 nurses receive unique training supported by international studies and insights into various aspects of pain management, such as accurate assessment and reassessment of pain, effective procedures and considerations when caring for patients who have recently undergone surgery and are experiencing pain.
“As we continue to strive towards bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and current practice, nurses are encouraged to work with their multidisciplinary team to deliver exemplary professional practice in the areas of patient experience and clinical outcomes,” said Brent Foreman, Assistant Executive Director of Nursing at HMC.
Foreman added that HMC’s nursing leadership is dedicated to strengthening the nursing workforce in order to provide them with the educational support required to continue delivering excellent patient care.          The Peninsula
