ISLAMABAD: The symbolic bat of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has whacked the ball out of the park with total expenditure in the last year amounting to a whopping Rs960m – the highest monetary outflow of any political party for 2012 – 2013.
The expenditure and the income of the PTI is more than the Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim-League Nawaz put together – at least on paper.
While the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is yet to disclose the complete financial accounts of several parties, including the PTI. The PPP and PML-N’s assets were disclosed by the ECP yesterday. PTI Chairman Imran Khan spent Rs960,155,819 for overhead party costs, payments and fixed assets. The party’s total income receipt amounts to Rs1.05bn for this financial year.
While the party started the fiscal year with an opening balance of nearly Rs38m, the net balance at the close of the year was about Rs132m.
PTI leaders quoted Imran as saying that the party met its financial expenditures through fund-raising campaigns.
Through contributions by its chairman as well as local and international donors, the party raised funds worth Rs1.05bn.
It paid about Rs410m for advertising and marketing expenses; Rs235m for public events expenses; Rs24m in salaries; Rs11m for entertainment; and Rs53m for printing and stationery.
The party spent an estimated Rs70m in financial assistance to candidates, with Rs6.6m allocated to travelling and conveyance. The party’s total value of assets was Rs170m, including a net balance worth Rs133m in cash by the end of the last fiscal year (June 30, 2013).
