Doha: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs built 66 mosques and 79 imam houses over the past one year as part of its plan to double the number of mosques to keep pace with the population growth and expansion of big cities. In a statement, the ministry said it received 37 plots of land allocated by authorities to build mosques and prayer areas for Eid Al Adha and Eid Al Fitr and centres for teaching the Quran.
Doha: The Minister of Transport H E Jassim bin Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti and his Guinean counterpart, Aliou Diallo, signed an air transport agreement. It gives national carriers in both countries the right to operate passenger and cargo flights and all transport rights. The meeting also discussed means of enhancing cooperation in the field of transport and communications.
Doha: The Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary-General of the Supreme Education Council H E Dr Mohamed Abdulwahed Ali Al Hammadi yesterday issued a decision appointing Dr Aziza Ahmed Al Saadi as Director of SEC’s Education and Training Sector Strategy Office.
Doha: The Islamic Dawah Organisation has dispatched an aid convoy to Gambia, donated by people in Qatar. It comprised 20 tonnes of relief materials, including chairs for school students.
Shaikh Hammad Abdul Qader Al Shaikh, Director-General at the Office of Islamic Dawah Organisation in Qatar, said the convoy included generators and Islamic dresses for women. He said Gambian people were suffering due to a lack of power which is important for providing water for homes, farms and animals. He said women were not able to wear the Islamic dress due to their difficult economic situation and many students did not have chairs in schools. He said people in Qatar funded 139 projects worth about QR6m, including 16 mosques and Islamic compounds, 113 wells, three schools and two health centres besides providing direct aid. QNA
