Al Waab edge Pearl in Qatar Amateur League final, seal title for third time

Al Waab clinched the Qatar Amateur League (QAL) title after edging out EIS Pearl CFC in the final at Al Ahli Stadium on Friday night.

This is the third time that Al Waab have won the coveted title from four editions, with the feat making them the most successful team of the event.

Hani Balan, Executive Committee Member of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) was the chief guest at the final and gave away the trophy to the winning Al Waab captain.

The closing ceremony was also attended by Fahad Thani, Director of Football Development QFA, Ibrahim Shaheen, Chairman of the QAL Organising Committee, and Sami Al Shammari, Executive Director for Administration at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.

Organised by the QFA with support from the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the Strategic Partner of the QAL since 2013/2014, this year’s edition has witnessed the participation of 12 teams which include Al Waab, EIS Pearl CFC, Lusail, Doha, Al Kaabaan, Al Quds, Copros, Al Bidda, Ezdan, MadinatKhalifa, Amwaj, and Al Matar.

A special prize worth QR 5000 was given to the top scorer of the league, Noor El Din Bousar of EIS Pearl CFC. He scored a total of 9 goals throughout the league.

The first place team (Al Waab) received a cash prize of QR 150,000 apart from gold medals, while the runners-up –EIS Pearl CFC – received QR100,000 besides silver medals. Al Quds got richer by QR80,000 and bronze medals for securing third place in the tournament.

The fourth edition kicked off on October 25 and was played across various venues in Qatar including Doha Stadium, Al Ahli Stadium and QFA’s Football Development Department pitches.

Al Waab remained unbeaten throughout the eevent and finished the season with a tally of 29 points from nine wins and a couple of drawn games.

EIS Pearl CFC earned a total of 25 points after winning eight  matches besides a drawing. They  suffered one defeat.  
Al Quds collected a total of 21 points.
