DOHA: Over 600 IT employees from more than 40 government entities have been successfully trained in digital government and relevant technical skills at the Qatar Digital Government Center for Excellence (QDGCE) under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
This was part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to further implement the ‘Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy’.
Launched last May, the initiative aims to educate and train all IT employees of the government over the course of the next three years in collaboration with public and private partners, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Community College of Qatar, Microsoft, Cisco, and others.
“We are delighted to have completed this phase of the initiative, mainly for qualifying such a number of local employees with hands-on experience to guarantee the sustainability of Qatar Digital Government projects,” said Reem Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development at the Ministry.
“The centre aims to train local personnel and qualify them for government entities in order to plug the skills gap in industry,” she added.
“Many of government entities have been contacted and their IT training requirements carefully identified. That was tremendously helpful in designing the most appropriate tracks and training courses their staff actually need, taking into consideration the types of work they perform as well as their areas of technical specialisation,” said Al Mansoori.
The Government pays great attention to human capital development, fully understanding their key role in development and performance improvement nationwide.
The initiative taskforce are attracting more think tanks in the field of technology and training to help enrich the content to meet the needs of government entities.
The Qatar Digital Government Steering Committee has embraced various mechanisms and tools to assist in realising the objectives of the Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy, including the QDGCE, which, in addition to its main mission, will become a platform for innovation in digital government services.
