DOHA: Slava Snowshow  kicked off yesterday at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC). Over 6,000 people are expected to attend the performances which will continue until Sunday.

This interactive show involves the audience in the performance and promises to be a very unique experience. “The show has place for improvisation and aims to awaken the imagination of the audience,” said Artem Zemolkof, main actor of the Slava Snowshow, at a press conference to launch the show yesterday.

“We are prepared to work with audiences of all ages and we hope it pleases everyone. I don’t know if there is an age limit because that depends on the child. You can compare the show to a rollercoaster and not all kids want to ride the rollercoaster,” he explained. Zemolkof added that “it’s a unique experience that a person who doesn’t ask too many questions will appreciate better.”

The Russian show arrives in Qatar following sold-out engagements around the world and hosted by Snowball Productions. George Fahed, Managing Director of the company, also at the press briefing, said that “we invited them because they’re a unique show in the Russian Theatre. It will be a one-of-a-kind-experience for the Gulf countries and the Arab world,” he added.

On his part, Said Al Bida, Chairman of Snowball Productions, stated that the company “tries to go hand in hand with developments in Qatar. I hope that this show will be very high quality and will contribute to face challenges presented to the country.” Slava’s Snowshow was created and staged initially by Russian performance artist Slava Polunin. The Emmy Award winner spectacle also won the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event.

Popularly known as the best clown in the world, Polunin has said that he loves “a theatre where spectators and actors create together. A theatre on the edge between art and life, tragedy and comedy, absurdity and naivety, cruelty and tenderness.”

Manar Al Muraikni, from Ooredoo, said that Ooredoo is “very proud to be golden sponsor to this wonderful show. Our responsibility is to provide sponsorship for these events. We hope to have 6,000 people come.”

Snowball Productions aims to bring more similar shows from the sphere of the Snowshow. Tickets are available at Virgin Mega Stores. the peninsula
