Doha: Qatar University’s Continuing Education Office (QU-CEO) graduated 31 employees of the Ministry of Environment from its Environmental Compliance Inspection Programme.
The ceremony under the patronage of Minister of Environment H E  Ahmed Amer Mohamed Al Humaidi and QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, was attended by 60 officials from QU and the ministry.
The employees benefitted from the two-year training programme designed to prepare them for leadership roles in the environmental inspection profession.
It was the second batch of the ministry’s employees in the programme that was launched by QU-CEO in 2011 in partnership with the ministry.
The programme is designed to fulfil the ministry’s need for environmental inspectors and expose its young Qatari employees to training conducted by QU faculty and the ministry’s experts.
It aims to prepare employees to become qualified environmental inspectors and contribute to advancing the inspection process in their departments and sections in accordance with international standards and procedures.
The trainees were provided with the opportunity to assess and identify their leadership and management strengths, enhance their skills and abilities in fields, including  English language, information technology and sciences.
They also had hands-on training in land, marine and industrial inspection.
The Minister said: “We are pleased to honour today the employees who participated in the programme, which highlights positive contributions by collaborations between QU and government institutions, particularly with the ministry.
“We are also proud of QU’s achievements and core role in advancing education and research and developing skills and capacities of future generations.”
Congratulating the graduates, Prof Al Misnad said: “In partnering in this programme, QU reinforces its position as a driver of social development through its services for the wider community such as research, professional development training, community awareness programmes, programmes for high school students and consultancy to industry, among others.
“These new graduates are an addition to the 16 who graduated in Spring 2013.
“The QU-CEO has demonstrated its commitment to the institutional mission to develop more professionals and experts in the environmental field to contribute to enhancing the country’s development and progress.”
Dr Rajab Al Esmail, Director, QU-CEO, said: “The programme reflects QU’s commitment to ensure human and social development and contribution to the wider community’s continuous education while promoting investment in technical education towards a sustainable knowledge-based economy.”
Mohamed Salem Al Housni, Manager, Human Resources Department at the ministry, said: “The programme, which comes as part of our collaboration with QU, contributes to developing a cadre of professionals and experts at the ministry and promoting and advancing the Qatarisation process in government institutions and ministries.”
