Local firms discuss CSR activities

DOHA: The fourth Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) being held under the patronage of the Minister of Business and Trade H E Sheikh Fahd bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Abdurrahman Al Thani, has brought together local organisations across various sectors to discuss CSR activities.

Over 300 take part in the two-day conference held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha.

Sponsored and organised by the Ministry of Business and Trade, the conference aims to raise awareness on the role of both the public and private sectors in the field of CSR and unify the efforts of the Qatari businessmen in a way that serves the goals of the economic and social development in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Under the directive of the Minister of Energy and Industry, HE Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Qatargas is supporting the conference as ‘Diamond’ sponsors.  

Qatargas Chief Executive Officer, Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani delivered a keynote address at the opening ceremony. Addressing the audience comprising heads of national companies, public and private institutions and CSR leaders and other senior executives, the Qatargas CEO highlighted the company’s commitment towards the communities and environment in which it operates.

“We in Qatargas are committed towards promoting and protecting the environmental, social and economic interests of the communities we operate in. This commitment underpins our firm belief that we have inherited the resources we enjoy today from our older generations and we are committed to preserve these resources for our children and for future generations. A key element in this area is our pledge to conduct our business in a manner that embeds CSR across the Company and promotes continuous improvement in all our business practices and operations,” he said.

ExxonMobil Qatar, one of the participants at the event, emphasised its CSR activities across its global operations by its General Manager Bart Cahir.

“At ExxonMobil, we recognise the extent of our responsibilities as an organisation and stakeholder, and incorporate this across our global operations. But even as a global organisation, we are part of a local community. We are neighbours and fellow parents. We are consumers of local goods and services. And we are part of Qatar’s workforce,” Cahir said.
