ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China are set to sign agreements to boost investments and build infrastructure during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Beijing, it was learnt yesterday.
Agreements relating to infrastructure include the construction of roads and railways links and are likely to be inked when Sharif visits China on July 4. As a prelude to the trip, the Minister for Planning and Development, Ehsan Iqbal, recently visited Beijing.
Iqbal said that he had gone there to set the stage for promoting economic relations. ‘The PM’s visit will translate the time-tested friendship into mutual economic cooperation,” he said.
Asked about agreements for linking roads and rail networks to promote trade, he said that he had shared Pakistan’s priority list with the Chinese side to help them undertake preparatory work instead of starting work on proposals after the visit. China has asked its financial institutions to arrange options for financing mega projects in Pakistan. Internews
