DOHA: Internal security force, Lekhwiya, is working with other public security agencies to crack down on begging and to streamline traffic during peak hours through Ramadan that begins here today.
The force will deploy some 50 patrols daily during the holy month, and will distribute some 10,000 ‘iftar’ meal packets to motorists every day to prevent people from rushing to break their fast.
Motorists in a hurry to reach their homes or places they have been invited to for breaking the fast are a major cause of rising accidents during the fasting month, the in-charge of Lekhwiya’s patrolling in Ramadan, Brigadier Ali Salman Al Mohannadi said.
“We will also be on vigil against those who try to vitiate the spiritual environment during Ramadan and don’t show respect for Qatari culture and traditions,” he told
