Doha: Qatar's Family Consulting Center (Wifaq) has launched the First Year of Marriage awareness and counseling program in partnership with Qatar University (QU), targeting newly married students and promoting family well-being.

The program aims to strengthen family values, enhance self-awareness and provide participants with practical skills to build healthy marital relationships.

It focuses on communication, conflict management, understanding differences between partners, and encouraging dialogue and cooperation during the early stages of marriage.

Delivered by family and social counseling specialists, the initiative combines evidence-based guidance with interactive learning to help couples address common challenges, strengthen relationships and promote long-term family stability, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Wifaq Community Outreach Department Director Lulwa Al Yazidi said the program reflects the center's preventive approach to supporting couples and highlighted the importance of building strong marital foundations from the start.

She added that the partnership with QU supports Wifaq's efforts to work with national and academic institutions to expand family awareness programs and reach students, while continuing to develop services to meet the needs of Qatari families.

QU Student Activities Department Director Abdulla Hamid Almulla said the initiative reflects the university's commitment to supporting students' psychological and social well-being alongside academic success.

He said preparing students for the future includes helping them build stable families that contribute to a cohesive society, adding that strong participation in the program shows growing awareness among students of the importance of family preparation and balancing family life with academic commitments.
