Doha: The Anti-Doping Lab Qatar (ADLQ) and the Qatar Anti-Doping Commission (QADC) are gearing up to face the challenge of hosting the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in October.
The Doha 2015 will be held at Qatar Sport Club and will take place from October 21 to 31.
The support of the ADLQ and QADC are crucial to the successful staging of the World Championships. The QADC will be responsible for collecting athlete samples during the competition and the ADLQ – one of only 35 laboratories around the world to be fully accredited by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) - will be responsible for anti-doping testing.
The QADC and Local Organising Comiittee recently held a full-day workshop, focusing on working with athletes with impairments, for 50 of the Doha 2015 anti-doping personnel.
The workshop was led by lecturers Nicola Vance, anti-doping consultant and IPC anti-doping delegate, and doping expert Marlen Polymeropoulou.
The workshop introduced para-sports and sport classifications to the attendees, who included doping control officers and chaperones.
It also provided background on the principles and etiquette in working with athletes with impairments, as well as an overview of the international standards regarding anti-doping testing for athletes with impairments.
The attendees also took part in practical sessions that included special scenarios based on real issues that can arise when working with athletes with impairment.
The state-of-the-art facilities and experienced staff at the ADLQ is located just 20 minutes away from the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics Championships venue.
The ADLQ is one of only 35 laboratories around the world that are fully-accredited by WADA – the World Anti-Doping Agency - to conduct human doping control sample analyses. The ADLQ was inaugurated in 2010 and provides anti-doping testing for athletes across the Gulf region as well as West Asia. While its main function is doping testing, the ADLQ also has a toxicology, multi-purpose as well as research labs. The ADLQ is augmented by the Qatar Anti-Doping Commission (QADC). The Peninsula
