Doha, Qatar: President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Zou Jiayi, said there is significant alignment between the bank’s priorities and Qatar’s development agenda, noting that Doha plays an important role in regional development and strengthening connectivity in the region during a press conference held yesterday.
Replying to a query by The Peninsula regarding Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims to build a sustainable economy and the link between Qatar’s vision and AIIB’s priorities, President of AIIB said, “I learned about Qatar’s development vision for 2030. And I see there is a lot of alignment between your development agenda, and the policy priorities of the bank. Qatar is playing a very important role in the region’s development, and also in the region’s connectivity.”
“Our bank has a mission and mandate to promote infrastructure connectivity and sustainable development. So I see there is a huge space for our bank to do more projects in your country and serve your development agenda,” she added.
Qatar, as a founding member of the AIIB, is an important partner in development cooperation.
Climate-related financing accounted for 71 percent of the bank’s ordinary financing last year, ex-ceeding its annual target of 60 percent for the fourth consecutive year, she added.
