Doha: The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage in collaboration with Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is set to participate in the World Travel Market (WTM) exhibition, which will take place from November 4 to 7 in London.
Some 5,000 exhibitors from 149 countries are expected to participate in the exhibition.
Qatar has been participating in the exhibition since 1980s and after setting up QTA, the participation became more organised.
QTA will participate at the WTM in collaboration with a large number of local companies and organisations. The participation aims to promote the services that are being provided by Qatar as a key player of tourism industry in the region.
QTA has been allotted 400 square metres to set up its stall at the exhibition, said Ibrahim Abdurrahim Al Sayed (pictured), Adviser of Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.
Al Sayed is also the supervisor of Al Mathorat Al Shabiya magazine issued by the Ministry.
Traditional handicrafts of weaving (Al Sadu), decorations made of gypsum and wood, manufacturing works of traditional boats, traditional stitching and other traditional items will be showcased at the Qatari stall, Al Sayed added. In addition, the falcon hunting (Al Hur and Al Shahin falcons) will also be displayed.
A separate space has been kept to serve local beverages specially Qahwa, along with the historical pictures of Qatar.
The latest publications about Qatari culture and heritage will also be available at Qatar’s stall.
Qatar’s participation in the exhibition is line with the 2013 Qatar-UK cultural activities that aim to boost the relations between the two countries in the fields of arts, education, sport and science in a bid to develop the culture and thinking of the institutions and individuals.
The cultural events will also help to conduct dialogues, give opportunities for innovations and cooperation to develop people to people contacts between two countries in the fields of arts and cultures.
