ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) of Pakistan’s capital Islamabad has launched a massive drive to plant olive trees at different spots in Islamabad in collaboration with the National Agriculture Research Council (PARC).
In the first phase of the campaign, the CDA will plant 5,000 olive saplings.
Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi briefed the chairman on the plantation drive at the site.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal, along with Member Administration Amer Ali Ahmed also inspected the area.
Planting an olive sapling in the green belt along Kashmir Highway, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal said that not only would the olive trees give fruits but their seeds will be used for extraction of olive oil.
The CDA chairman said that the olive plant was unique in nature and during the next phase thousands of olive saplings will be planted in Islamabad so that besides significant increase in the city’s green cover, maximum benefit is obtained from the olive trees.
The idea behind planting olive saplings is to enhance awareness among citizens and persuade them to come forward and join hands with the CDA for the improvement of the capital’s environment.
The CDA chairman said that Islamabad was unique due to its greenery and CDA was focusing on such constructive projects besides conducting annual plantation drives during the monsoon and spring.
