Magnitude 5.4 quake hits Philippines

MANILA, Philippines: A magnitude 5.4 tectonic earthquake struck four provinces in Northern Luzon on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs traced the quake 30 kilometers southwest of Laoag City at 10:24 a.m.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Bangued in Abra and Narcavan town in Ilocos Sur.

It was felt at Intensity 3 in the towns of Sinait, Santo Domingo, Magsingal, San Idelfonso, Bantay, Santa, Caoayan, Vigan, Santa Catalina, San Vicente in Ilocos Sur and

Callao and Penablanca towns in Cagayan and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte. The quake was also felt at Intensity 2 in Bucay town in Abra.

Phivolcs said it is expecting mild aftershocks.  (The Philippine Star)
