DOHA: Kuwaiti films take the spotlight at Doha Film Institute’s year-round screening series ‘Hekayat Khaleejiya.’
It will feature four short films, each with two screenings on July 2 and 3, at 10pm at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), followed by Q&A sessions with the directors.
Headlining the showcase is Meqdad Al Kout’s Dinosaur which follows the story of Bu Mansour, a government employee who strives to change his job title at the brink of his retirement. Al Kout’s comedic streak has won him accolades at international film festivals.
Musaed Al Mutairi’s Ka3bool narrates the trials and tribulations of Khalid aka Ka3bool, a Bedouin who works at a fast food restaurant to pay his bills. When he is fired, he finds himself in a difficult situation, as he has to withstand people mocking him and taking advantage of him.
The protagonist in Men’s Barbershop by Meshal Alhulail is faced with the seemingly impossible dilemma of changing his barber, while Yousef Al Mujeem’s Sorat Jawaz narrates the story of a Kuwaiti who visits a photographer to have his picture taken for his passport. However, the visit results in utter disappointment.The Peninsula
