Stranded passengers from Sikkim state wait for transportation on the first day of a 72-hour Gorkha People’s Liberation Front strike, at the Sikkim Bus Terminus in Siliguri, yesterday. The Front called the shutdown to renew its agitation for a separate Gorkhaland state to be carved out of parts of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts of West Bengal. Schools and markets were shut and there were few vehicles on roads.
