Workers’ health takes centre stage

DOHA: Qatar Petroleum (QP) has signed agreements with four major sponsors of the Second QP Occupational Health Conference on November 19-21 in Doha.

The conference will feature scientific presentations on occupational medicine, industrial hygiene and occupational health nursing. 

The three-day event is organised by QP’s Medical Services Department, in partnership with the Supreme Council of Health (SCH).

Theme for this year’s event is ‘Innovations for a Healthy Workforce’.

Companies that have agreed to support the event are Qatar Shell as platinum sponsor, Oryx GTL Limited as gold sponsor, as well as Qatargas and Qatar Fuel Additives Company (Qafac) as silver sponsors.

“Building on the success of the inaugural edition of the event last year, Qatar Petroleum is proud once again to organise the second conference this year.

“We are grateful to the strong support of sponsors, all of whom share our vision of promoting high standards in occupational health practice,” said Ahmad Ali Al Mawlawi, Director of Administration at QP.

He said that patronage of the Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, for the conference affirms QP’s commitment and continued efforts towards developing and improving occupational health standards in all sectors in alignment with Qatar National Development strategy.

Al Mawlawi signed sponsorship agreements on behalf of QP at a formal ceremony at Hilton, Doha yesterday. Dr Ahmad Al Badran, Acting Manager for Medical Services, QP, and senior officials of sponsoring firms, including  Nasser Jeham Al Kuwari, General Manager of Qafac, were present.

“Qatar Shell is delighted to be taking the leading platinum sponsor role in the conference, and contributing with speakers. Occupational health is an aspect of our responsibility as an employer that we take seriously,” said Rob Sherwin, Deputy Country Chairman, Qatar Shell.

Ahmed Al Muhannadi, Oryx GTL Chief Administration Officer, said: “Oryx GTL sets high standards to ensure a healthy workforce and we continuously strive to improve well-being of our staff and their families.
