Activists held in Karachi

Islamabad: Police have arrested several suspects, including political activists, during a crackdown in Karachi. Police said raids were conducted in Kharadar and Meethadar areas and drugs and arms were also seized. Four people were held in Usmanabad area and three in Shah Latif Town and Landhi. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Awami National Party criticised the crackdown and said their workers were targeted.

Death sought   for bombers  

Kabul: The Interior Ministry has demanded the death penalty for dozens of suicide bombers who have been arrested by Afghan forces. The demand comes amid efforts by President Hamid Karzai to pave the way for peace talks between the militants and the government to end the decade-old violence. Forces, meanwhile, thwarted a coordinated suicide attack attempt on the Energy and Water Ministry and held seven militants including two suicide bombers. Two tonnes of explosives were also seized.

4.6 quake jolts eastern Pakistan
