MES Indian school students during an event organised to mark National Sports Day of India.
Doha: MES Indian School observed National Sports Day of India yesterday to encourage students to participate in physical activities and to ensure physical and mental fitness especially during the pandemic.
National Sports Day also known as ‘Rashtirya Khel Diwas’ is celebrated every year on August 29 to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, an Indian field hockey player, who was regarded as one of the greatest in the history of the sport and widely acclaimed for his extraordinary goal-scoring feats in the international sports arena.
To mark the Occasion MES conducted sports activities such as online sports quiz, push-up, plank and skipping activities for the students whose participation was overwhelming.
The school Principal, Hameeda Kadar remarked that sports and games are imperative for the well-being as well as the holistic growth of the students.
Engaging in sports activity offers several health benefits, especially to those students who are confined to home due to pandemic reasons, she added.
Head of the Department of Physical Education, Akbar Ali K.T coordinated the event for the students.
