DOHA: As part of efforts to improve services, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is set to conduct a survey to take feedback about the quality of water distributed to its customers. This was announced yesterday by Abdulmonem Ahmed Al Darwish, Manager, Water Operation and Control Department at Kahramaa.
“The survey is expected to be lunched by the fourth quarter of 2014 where Kahramaa will receive substantial boost with all customers support through their fair and honest feedback,” said Al Darwish in an interview to this newspaper.
He said: “Kahramaa team is very enthusiastic and ambitious about the participation of all our customers in the upcoming survey as we believe that the feedback provided by every single customer will be equally important in improving the quality of services.”
The campaign drive will last for almost three years where every year, its effectiveness will be constantly evaluated.
Asked how safe is the water supplied by Kahramaa, especially for drinking and cooking purposes, he said: “For several years ‘Kahramaa Water Quality Laboratory’ developed an internationally competent sampling and monitoring plan that covers water supply from production facilities to the customers points. As a matter of fact, more than 89 parameters in 117,000 samples are being analysed annually according WHO standard.”
The Kahramaa official highlighted that their water laboratory is an ISO 17025:2005 accredited facility since 2012, which reflects its strong commitment to comply and exceed international quality standards. Moreover, this certificate provides confidence and trust in all results generated by Kahramaa water quality laboratory.
“As far as the water quality is concerned, according to water laboratory records, since 2010, the biological compliance constantly exceeded not only the WHO guidelines (95 percent) but also the very tough target committed by Kahramaa (99 percent),” Al Darwish added.
Reiterating customer satisfaction and water quality, he added: “Kahramaa is putting a lot of efforts to constantly improve the drinking water quality where it makes fresh moves to strength ties with customers by increasing the trust levels through initiatives such as ‘Water Quality Campaign’.
In addition, Kahramaa has spearheaded a drive to construct a contemporary laboratory that aims to monitor and deliver assured potable water that is based on highest drinking water standards.
It also aims at building world class infrastructure (building complex) that is iconic to Qatar culture and at the same time “green” with highest degree of excellence equipped with modern laboratory facilities and equipment installed considering industry’s latest developments across disciplines.
“The new ‘Water Quality Assurance Laboratory’ at our Al Thumama complex will cover all drinking water analysis and act as a drinking water quality reference in the entire GCC region,” Al Darwish added.
On the water loss issues in its distribution network he said that Kahramaa has already put in place a comprehensive programme in 2000, which had been further intensified since 2007. “Between the year 2009 and 2013 the water real loss (leakages and bursts) has been brought down significantly from a high of 12 percent to about six percent,” he said.
