QOC to launch Qatar Active campaign in Nov

DOHA: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) is set to launch the Qatar Active Campaign, one of the projects of the Qatar Sport Sector Strategy 2011-2016, in November.
The campaign reflects the high interest that Qatar, under the wise leadership of  the Emir and President of QOC, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, accords to human, global and sustainable development with the sport sector being one of its priorities.
The QOC has formed the Organising Committee of the Campaign project headed by the Executive Director of the project, Mohamed Issa Al Fadala. Sub-committees were also formed, as well as the work team in charge of implementing the project. The objectives and tasks of every working group have also been determined.
The Organising Committee holds regular meetings for the follow up of the committee activities and latest plans for the setting up of various activities of the campaign that will conducted until March 2015. Then, a new program will be launched for the period going from April 2015 to March 2016. 
The Qatar Active Campaign features some 30 activities per year, being held through all the months of the year. They include sport and entertainment activities and are targeting all male and female age categories, with specific activities for people with special needs. 
“The Qatar Active Campaign works towards achieving three main objectives namely increase the participation and awareness of various community categories about the importance of adopting a healthy and active lifestyle, increase the opportunities for all categories of the community and all age groups and enable them to participate in physical activities, and increase the participation of community members in sport and entertainment activities and programmes,” said Al Fadala.
Regarding the opening of the Campaign activities, he said: “The campaign is due to start next November. The Organising Committee is exerting every possible effort in order for the opening of activities to be in line with the importance of the social content characterised by rich and targeted activities. They are meant to reach all citizens and residents of all age categories, males and females. This is in addition to the ambitious goals serving mainly the sport sector in Qatar but also the health aspect.”
He highlighted that the project is expected to contribute to tackling the overweight and obesity issues that threaten modern urban societies, which are aggravated by the modern lifestyle. 
The Peninsula
