London: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday discussed with the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, relations between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen them at all levels.
Talks at the prime minister’s official residence 10 Downing Street in the afternoon also dealt with international and regional issues, especially the situation in the region. Several British ministers and the delegation accompanying the Emir were present.
Following the talks, the Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah and the Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, signed a memorandum of understanding for establishing a ministerial forum for dialogue between both governments.
The annual forum aims to strengthen relations and political dialogue to enhance mutual interests, including regional security and stability.
The Qatari Ambassador to the UK, Yousuf bin Ali Al Khater, handed over a letter to Cameron’s Adviser Nick Perry concerning a grant from Qatar to support Margaret Thatcher Scholarship Trust. The Emir also attended a luncheon banquet hosted by David Cameron at his residence in his honour. Several members of the British cabinet attended.
The Emir also paid a visit to the headquarters of the British Parliament at the Palace of Westminster. The Emir met with Baroness Frances D’Souza, the Lord Speaker of the House of Lords Chamber and a number of the House members. The Emir also met with Baroness Morris and a number of parliamentarians and Lords, including the Group of Friends of the State of Qatar in the British Parliament. QNA
