Awards, Japan animes to end youth fest

DOHA: The Ajyal Youth Film Festival concludes tonight with a glittering awards ceremony and the screening of two award-winning Japanese animes.
Winners of Doha Film Experience, evaluated by hundreds of young jurors aged eight to 21, will be announced at the awards during the closing ceremony at 8pm at the Katara Sony Open-Air Cinema.
Over the past days, Ajyal’s jurors have watched and critiqued 42 films the in-competition and out-of-competition segments under four categories: Bariq (the out-of-competition segment for families with kids aged between four and seven years) and the in-competition Mohaq, Hilal, and Bader segments.
Vying for top honours in the in-competition segment are four features and six short films in the Hilal category for youngsters aged 13 to 17 years; four features and eight short films in the Bader segment evaluated by jurors aged 18 to 21 and seven short films in the Mohaq segment for jurors aged eight to 12.
The winners in the in-competition segment will receive a development award through the Ajyal Film Fund. 
Prizes in the short film competition include the $5,000 Best Filmmaker Award in the Mohaq, Hilal and Bader segments. Feature film competition prizes include the $15,000 Best Feature Filmmaker Award in the Hilal and Bader categories.
The closing gala starts at 8.45pm at Katara Drama Theatre, with the screening of Makoto Shinkai films Garden of Words and Voices of a Distant Star. The Peninsula
