Doha: The highly-anticipated BlackBerry Z10 smartphone, powered by BlackBerry 10 (BB10) platform, will be available in Qtel’s retail shops soon. Customers will also be able to place orders online.
“Qtel will inform customers in the coming weeks when the product is in stock,” said a company statement yesterday.
Although Qtel did not specify a date, traders reveal that the latest edition of BlackBerry smartphone will be available in the Qatari market after February 10, coinciding with its arrival in the UAE.
Pricing will vary, but will remain unsubsidised and the product will retail for AED 2,599, according to a report.
The company is expecting strong demand from customers in Qatar.
“We’re delighted to soon offer the ground-breaking new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone powered by BB10. We expect strong demand at our retail shops for the BlackBerry Z10,” Mohammed Al Marri, Chief Sales and Service Officer at Qtel, said.
The BlackBerry Z10 is a touch screen device with a 4.2-inch 1,280x768 touchscreen display and a 356-pixel density, front- and rear-facing cameras.
Research in Motion (RIM), the Ontario-based developer of BlackBerry smartphone and tablet, announced the change of its corporate name into BlackBerry Limited, with the unveiling of the new BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphones at events held simultaneously in New York, Toronto, London, Paris, Dubai and Johannesburg.

BB10 was launched with over 70,000 applications, along with BlackBerry Flow, a feature that allows users to move between apps by using swipe gestures instead of a home button.
Additionally, BB10 smartphones feature 1.5 Ghz dual core processors with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and an expandable memory card slot.
Apart from the latest enhancements in high density pixel and screen technology, both feature a microHDMI outport for presentations and advanced sensors such as NFC (near field communications) to support mobile payments and the exchange of information with a tap of the smartphone.
They also have a removable battery.
The BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphones will each come in white and black.
Qtel is offering Qatar’s large base of BlackBerry smartphone customers reliable network coverage and a wide range of BlackBerry subscription packages, starting from QR15/week for 250 MB of data for BlackBerry Hala customers and QR60/month for 1 GB of data for Shahry customers.
