GENEVA: Rebels in Sudan’s Darfur region yesterday freed a group of civilians captured nearly a week ago while on their way to a conference, the Red Cross said. “Thirty-one civilians were released by the Sudan Liberation Army-Abdel Wahid in Darfur, Sudan,” said a statement from the organisation. “The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) facilitated their handover to the Sudanese authorities,” it said. ICRC personnel accompanied the group on a helicopter flight to Zalingei, in West Darfur state. AFP
