On March 23 at 7pm the spectators at the Asian Town recreational hall were overwhelmed to see the ‘Arengettam’ of classical dance performance of Lakshmi Krishna, a person with special needs and multi talents.

Art is universal, the activity of art is as important as the activity of languages itself; with her magical dance performance Lakshmi conveyed the universal language to the multinational audience.

The one hour performance included Slokam, Pushpanjali, Krishna Stuthi, Dashavatharam, Keerthanam, Thillana and Mangalam with the live music support. The performance was breathtaking and was attended by chief guests Dr Saif Ali Al Hajari, Chairman of Friends of Nature, CSR International Ambassador; Al Yazi Al Kuwari, Director of the Social Cultural Center for Special Needs; Elamin Mohamed Ali Abdalla, Medical Evaluation Doctor at Al Shafallah; Shibu Abdul Rasheed, Principal Noble International School, and Balachandran Nair, CEO of Press4Media & Coordinator, Asianet News Qatar, and AKTOR S.A./ALYSJ JV representatives.

The representatives included Carlo Germani, Project Director (AKTOR); Manolis Zolotas, Commercial Director (AKTOR); Oliver Kleebach, Project Director (ALYSJ JV); Ram Kumar, Chief Financial Officer (ALYSJ JV); and Richard Majoor, Project Manager (ALYSJ JV).

Lakshmi Krishna who was born on March 26, 2005 with Down’s syndrome hails from Kerala, southern part of India. Eldest daughter of Suresh Kumar, an employee of AKTOR S.A./ALYSJ JV and Sindu Suresh Kumar, a homemaker have been living in Qatar for a decade.

They observed her delays in reaching the milestones and started giving her therapies at the age of two.

As years passed the little Lakshmi achieved her first goal in her life by walking for her own at the age of two and half years which made her parents eyes filled with tears of joy. She is having a younger school going sister Navami Krishna.

At the age of four, Lakshmi started attending Hope Qatar — school for special needs and then next four years of her hard work paved the way for her to join for 1st standard in Noble International School, a normal schooling for pursuing her studies.

Currently being the student of 6th standard, the school Principal Shibu Abdul Rasheed, teachers, school staffs and needless to say all the students of the school are extensively extending every support and encouragements to this rising star.

Her parents are blessed to have very supportive friends and families and thankful to them for extending their encouragements to Lakshmi in order to bring up her talents in all possible ways.

Lakshmi’s parents realised her interest in dancing in her early stage of schooling while she was performing during a school annual day function.  Knowing Lakshmi’s interest and in order to motivate her talents she has been enrolled for Classical Dance in Kalakshetra Qatar in 2016.

At the outset it was just for a hobby, but once after her parents realised her passion and affection for the art and joy of performing, they decided to give Lakshmi the best which could make her happy.

She is not just a classical dancer but also a good performer in western dance and has shown her talent in swimming too. More to add to her achievements, in May 2018 Lakshmi played a character in a short film called ‘Ice Cream’ directed by A J Al Thani.
