ISLAMABAD: A number of initiatives are underway aiming to address social, economic and cultural practices barring women from active participation to improve the gender equality and women’s empowerment situation in Pakistan.
Although women have significant potential to contribute to economic growth and social development, they face exclusions and discrimination to limit their effective participation in national development.
The planned strategy of government for women’s development is to empower women in all spheres of life as women development, empowerment and gender equality are intrinsic to socio economic development, official sources said.
“Therefore, eliminating gender inequality and achieving women’s empowerment is the priority development agenda of the government”.
Several commitments at national and international forums ensure that the gender empowerment is to be featured at all levels.
The major national commitments include Women’s Empowerment Policy, the National Plan of Action and the unconditional cash transfer to women.
