DOHA: Fifty researchers from 13 countries took part in the 11th European, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Conference on Information Systems (EMCIS) which concluded at Qatar University (QU).
The event titled “Big Data in the Era of Cloud Computing and Social Media” attracted researchers from Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Turkey, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Lebanon, Egypt, USA, UK, and Australia.
The two-day event which was attended by QU officials, information systems (IS) professionals, and faculty members, was organised by QU’s College of Business and Economics (CBE) in conjunction with Brunel University and University of Piraeus.
It was sponsored by I-MEET (integrated model for evaluating e-government services transformation), a project under the National Priorities Research Program of Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF).
The first of its kind in the Middle East and Europe, the conference covered technical, organisational, business and social issues in the application of Information Technology, providing an opportunity for participants to exchange information, share experiences, network, and discuss possible collaboration activities.
In his keynote address, Senior Adviser on issues of research, innovation and higher education in Oman Prof Thomas Anderson presented on “Evolving Issues in ICT, Smart Cities and Human Resources”. Papers presented in this session addressed cloud computing infrastructures, e-government, IS management and organizational issues, and e-government and IT in the public sector.
CBE Assistant Professor of Accounting and Information Systems Dr Karim Al Yafi said:

Doha: The Minister’s Assistant for International Cooperation Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met yesterday separately with Poland’s Ambassador Krzysztof Suprowicz and Belgium’s envoy Christophe Payot.
The two meetings dealt with bilateral relations and means to bolster them. They also discussed issues of joint interest.
