Doha, Qatar: Qatar is witnessing rapid development in the information technology sector and is among the top 20 countries globally this year which demonstrates the robust business environment in the country.
Qatar has achieved a remarkable advancement in the 2025 World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), joining the ranks of the world’s top 20 most digitally competitive nations, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) said in a recent post on its social media handle.
“This progress is a testament to the nation’s strategic efforts to accelerate innovation, strengthen its digital infrastructure, and foster comprehensive digital inclusivity and accessibility.
“It also highlights the establishment of a resilient business ecosystem and robust digital governance, which are instrumental in creating a leading and sustainable digital community.
This accomplishment aligns with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030, which define the national approach to its regional and international digital standing,” it added.
This progress reflects the Qatar’s commitment to building a innovation-driven economy with the ongoing development the country is witnessing under national vision 2030 which places digital transformation at the heart of the nation’s sustainable development.
The International Institute for Management Development evaluates economies across three core factors which include knowledge, technology and future readiness. These pillars assess the level of the digital development and a country’s ability to leverage digital transformation.
At the beginning of this year, MCIT launched the Digital Inclusion Index 2024 for Qatar as part of its commitment to ensure that all members of society can access digital services with ease and at affordable costs while fostering their effective and sustainable use.
This represents a significant step toward building an inclusive digital society that guarantees equal access to digital services for all. It highlights the evolution of digital inclusion as a cornerstone of the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030.
As part of its efforts to develop the legislative and regulatory requirements for the digital authentication and trust services ecosystem in Qatar, the Ministry launched this year the National Digital Authentication and Trust Services Strategy 2024-2026.
This strategy supports Qatar’s digital transformation by introducing a comprehensive framework tailored to the needs of individuals and businesses, aligning with the Digital Agenda 2030, the Third National Development Strategy, and Qatar National Vision 2030.
Through this strategy, MCIT seeks to establish a legal, regulatory, and technical framework for an integrated digital system that enhances user trust in electronic services. This framework fosters a trusted digital environment that facilitates collaboration among individuals, government entities, and the private sector
The year also witnessed development of the Digital Skills Framework, as the first executive initiative of the ‘Digital Skills Working Group’.
This national initiative is designed to empower individuals and organizations with essential digital skills to support Qatar’s digital transformation. Built upon global best practices, the framework ensures alignment with evolving labor market needs and the latest digital advancements.
The framework covers 19 key digital skill domains, encompassing a broad range of essential competencies needed across both public and private sectors in Qatar. It identifies 115 digital skills, categorized into four progressive proficiency levels, ensuring a comprehensive approach to digital upskilling.
As part of its efforts to strengthen the digital ecosystem for entrepreneurs and startups, the Ministry also has launched the ‘Scale Now’ program in this year which is the first of its kind in Qatar to support digital entrepreneurs.
The program provides them with the necessary tools and mentorship to accelerate their business growth and expand into local, regional, and international markets. This initiative aligns with the ministry’s strategy to enhance the digital economy, supporting the objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030 by fostering a thriving digital innovation environment and developing startups, positioning Qatar as a leading regional hub for the digital economy.
