A total of 378,134 students enrolled in government and private schools operating in Qatar returned to their classes after the summer break yesterday for the new academic year 2024-2025.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has made extensive preparations to create conducive learning environment in schools with recreational and educational activities to keep students motivated.
The classrooms have been equipped with all necessary teaching aid of international standards to ensure quality education.
Water tanks were cleaned and water cooler filters changed in all schools. Fire safety systems of schools were thoroughly checked. The ministry has said that in coordination with civil defence fire drills will be conducted regularly and school employees undergo training for the first aid.
The General Directorate of Traffic has implemented an integrated traffic plan for the new academic. The plan aims to facilitate the movement of vehicles and reduce traffic congestion on main the roads, around schools and the roads leading to them by increasing patrols.
The ministry has said 2,353 buses will transport students, in addition to 160 cars and buses dedicated to transporting students with special needs.
A total of 136,802 students are enrolled in 303 government schools and kindergartens. Private schools have 241,332 students, including 48,319 Qatari students. A total of 13 new private schools and kindergartens have been licensed to open this year, including four schools as branches of existing educational facilities.
The ministry’s curricula plan for new the academic year is based on the Third National Development Strategy. The new plan seeks to achieve an ideal balance between the academic, social and psychological aspects of students.
It is aimed at providing education that meets the needs of students and enable them to acquire skills and values that make them face challenges.
The new plan focuses on digital competence, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking. It aims to keep pace with the best education practices around the global. As per the plan, KG students will be offered free reading classes along with increased sports activity.
The elementary school students will have the opportunity to acquire further linguistic and artistic skills along with life skills that develop their motivation to learn. In the preparatory schools, there will be focus on Arabic and English reading and writing classes.
The secondary school students will be required to submit graduation projects based on research and creativity, besides volunteering to develop their sense of social responsibility.
