Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, yesterday underlined Qatar’s great interest in enhancing the status of women as one of the fundamental pillars in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
H E Dr. Al Sulaiti was speaking at the opening session of the “Investing in Women’s Participation in Political Life” Forum, hosted in Amman and organized by the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women in the Kingdom of Jordan, in collaboration with the Coalition of Women Parliamentarians from Arab Countries to Combat Violence Against Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and the National Democratic Institute.
Her Excellency noted that the State of Qatar, in light of the lofty directives of its wise leadership, has adopted clear policies to enhance the status of women in all fields, “as the State has provided equal opportunities for women in the fields of education and work, which has enabled them to participate effectively in various sectors of work, in addition to exercising their right to political participation.”
She drew attention to the special attention that Qatar pays to strengthening and protecting the family as the nation’s wealth and providing all appropriate conditions for women’s participation in the field of public work.
She noted that the country’s approach has resulted in Qatari women holding senior executive and administrative positions, and they now constitute more than 37 percent of the workforce in all fields, especially in vital sectors such as education, health and social work, in addition to the fact that Qatari women represent more than 20 percent of entrepreneurs in Qatar.
Doubtlessly, it is a well-recognized fact that women in Qatar have played an increasingly significant role in the country’s development as the nation continues to invest in education, healthcare, and economic diversification.
Qatari women have gradually taken on leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Women hold prominent positions in government, business, and civil society, contributing to policy-making and governance. There is a growing number of female entrepreneurs in Qatar, supported by initiatives that provide access to finance, training, and networking opportunities. The Qatar Business Incubation Center and other organizations offer resources specifically for women to start and grow their businesses.
Overall, thanks to the leadership of the country, the role of women in Qatar’s development has become multifaceted and continues to grow as the country pursues its vision of a diversified and knowledge-based economy.
