Qatar’s giant strides in healthcare

Qatar, a nation known for its rapid development and great vision, has made significant strides in healthcare over the past few decades. With robust investment, innovative initiatives, and a commitment to improving public health, Qatar has transformed its healthcare system into a model of excellence in the region.

It is therefore not surprising that the Outpatient Department of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received more than 1.4 million visits, and its laboratory conducted over 11 million tests in the first half of 2024, as reported in statistics.

According to the report, the Outpatient Department recorded 1,428,627 visits between January and June 2024, and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) conducted 11,759,079 tests. Since January 2024, HMC has unveiled monthly statistics from across HMC hospitals and services. According to the data, outpatient services and laboratory tests were the most sought services in the first half of 2024.

HMC is the main public healthcare provider in Qatar, managing 12 hospitals — nine specialist hospitals and three community hospitals — as well as the Ambulance Service and home care services.  The report noted that a total of 11,238 babies were born between February and June 2024 at HMC hospitals, while within the first six months of 2024, all hospitals across the HMC network treated 197,204 patients. This includes 31,064 patients availing of inpatient services in June.

“HMC prides itself on supporting, caring for, and treating tens of thousands of patients each month across all of its hospitals and services,” HMC said on X platform.

Over the years, Qatar has embraced cutting-edge technologies to enhance healthcare delivery, including the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) and telemedicine services to improve access to healthcare and streamline patient care.

Its adoption of healthcare information technology enhances patient safety, data management, and operational efficiency across healthcare facilities.

Besides, Qatar invests in developing a skilled healthcare workforce through education and training, where it has continued to collaborate with international universities and healthcare institutions, providing training and education opportunities for healthcare professionals. The healthcare sector in Qatar is also actively engaged in capacity building by developing programs to nurture local talent and attract global expertise, contributing to a diverse and competent healthcare workforce.

Qatar’s remarkable progress in healthcare, doubtlessly, reflects its commitment to enhancing the well-being of its population and establishing itself as a regional leader in healthcare excellence.

Qatar is definitely poised to achieve even greater milestones in the years to come.
