Large Indian community in Qatar a strong pillar in bilateral ties: Envoy

Doha: Ambassador of the Republic of India to the State of Qatar, H E Dr. Deepak Mittal, has said that Qatar and India enjoy traditionally close and friendly relations and that the leadership in both countries have excellent chemistry, with regular engagement, pointing out that a strong Indian community in Qatar forms an important pillar.

In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency on the occasion of the National Day, the Ambassador explained that India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties and strong multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in the areas of energy, trade, investment, education and culture. 

He added the two countries are working together on some of the most pressing challenges facing the planet, from combating climate change to terrorism, from public health to Internet governance and food sufficiency.

The Ambassador said there is a vast potential in Qatar-India relations yet to be realised, which includes developing a comprehensive partnership in the areas of energy, strengthening cross border investments, diversification of bilateral trade, extending partnership in healthcare, building synergies in education and technology, expanding cooperation in technology and FinTech, and promoting more people to people and cultural contacts. 

H E the Ambassador noted that the bilateral cooperation has salience for promoting peace and stability in the region and the larger world.

Ambassador Mittal stated that the State of Qatar, under the wise and able leadership, has accomplished great achievements and made impressive strides in many areas, including education, industry, infrastructure, energy, business, tourism and healthcare, explaining that Qatar is on the path to realising the objectives identified under Qatar National Vision 2030.

He expressed gratitude to the leadership and the Government of the State of Qatar for their patronage, care and support to the Indian community over the years. 

He added that on behalf of the Government and the people of India, he conveyed warmest greetings and felicitations to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, other members of the ruling family, representatives of the Government of Qatar and the friendly people of Qatar.
