Our children and summer vacation

A lot of our young ones feel a relief when they accomplish their final terms and sprint toward summer vacation. According to them, the period of education, studying, and hard work comes to an end with the holidays starting.

This might seem logical to them, as they will not face daily homework, formative assessments, or summative ones. Guardians as well rejoice with the completion of the scholastic year believing a burden has fallen off their shoulders after a year of unceasing effort.

Yet, what is missing in that understanding is the fact that education is a process and not an end. Summertime is not only a period for entertainment, but also that of learning through play. It is that time of the year that unfolds the growth of kids socially, emotionally, cognitively as well as physically.

Summer camps, family gatherings, house chores as cooking, cleaning, board games playing, are all avenues by which students develop daily their emotional, social, physical, as well as their cognitive capabilities without knowing. Kids assume that these practices and play-acting have nothing to do with learning, however every tiny act of these target the growth of these young ones on different levels of their development. A typical advice for parents would be to encourage the involvement of their kids in various tasks in and out of their houses without highlighting to their children that they are learning to ensure that their kids will not refrain from doing them.

In this case, children would be learning spontaneously, and they would not experience any sort of pressure while performing such activities.

Parents ought to inspire their children to talk, express, sing, dance, exercise, participate in house chores, visit relatives, play sports, practice board games with their families or friends, all of which enhance students’ characters and prepare them to be enthusiastic to explore the many facets of life awaiting them.

When parents acquire the belief that education is non-stop, and it does not have to happen only within the borders of schools, then they would acknowledge the necessity of evolving their kids’ skills through various means available at home and in the community.

The more kids are exposed to opportunities, acts of service, and volunteer work, the more their skills will be sharpened. Not only that, but also, they will attain values and will gain etiquette on how to deal with others around them. In conclusion, our little ones need our helping hands. Without parents’ sincere input and genuine support, children will not have access to opportunities that will aid in their upbringing.  Guardians who are keen at uplifting the potentials of their children should consider all the prevailing occasions that are around to enrich their kids’ daily routines and assist in pulling out the best in them.

Knowledge is not only found in books or within classrooms but is also available in all the minute details and experiences that children pass through on a daily basis. Parents are kid’s primary source of care and with their back-up during the summer vacation, children’s abilities can be elevated to different scopes of excellence.
