Doha: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced to implement Iftar programmes in 12 areas which are expected to benefit over 358,000 fasting people during forthcoming holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made in a press conference held yesterday at Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Mosque on preparations of the Ministry for Ramadan.
A number of heads of the departments concerned attended the press conference. The Head of the Mosques Management Department, Mohamad bin Hamad Al Kuwari, said that all mosques across the country are ready to receive the faithful during Ramadan.
“The Department received 88 new mosques from the beginning of 2018 to April 2019,” said Al Kuwari, adding that 67 plots of lands were allotted by the government to build new mosques. He said that the Department also received 104 new houses for Imams and four centres for learning the Holy Quran.
“The Department assigned 50 Imams from expatriate community under a plan to provide Imams to 100 private mosques and prayer places at the ministries and government organisations to lead the prayers including ‘Tarawih’ during Ramadan,” said Al Kuwari. He said that Department has a total of 147 Qatari Imams, 906 non-Qatari Imams, 1,631 Muazins and 72 orators.
“The Ministry awarded a tender to clean 1,091 mosques at a cost of QR115m,” said Al Kuwari. Head of General Department, Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamad Al Thani, said that with the support of endowment fund, Iftar programmes will be implemented in 12 areas with the capacity of 358,000 fasting people.
