RIYADH: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Monday said to urgently convene a UN Security Council meeting to lift the siege on the city of Homs that is facing atrocities from the Syrian regime.

A statement released today by the GCC General Secretariat urged the United Nations Secretary-General to take steps under the UN Charter to end the hostilities against the Syrian people in the capital as well as the rest of the country.

The GCC urged to lift the unjust blockade imposed by the forces of the Syrian regime on the city of Homs ahead of attacking it with the support Lebanese Hezbollah militias under the banner of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The Syrian regime is continuing operations of ethnic and sectarian cleansing as has happened recently in Homs, as well as the use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people, the statement said and added, the continuing siege and violence in Homs are terrible acts against humanity. (QNA)
