ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has said poll symbols for political parties, who failed to submit their assets details, will not be allotted in the next election. The deadline of August 29 set by the ECP to submit statements of assets has expired but only 48 parties out of 230 have submitted details. Sources said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan People’s Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party had submitted details.
Free service for blind
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Post is allowing free transmission of literature packets up to 10kg for blind customers. An official said Pakistan Post services for the physically challenged people have been well received. Papers of any kind, periodicals and books in Braille or other special type for the use of the blind is allowed to be transmitted as “blind literature packets”.
Alert over terror attacks
ISLAMABAD: Intelligence agencies have cautioned authorities that they risked terror assaults and hostage executions by militant outfits if the moratorium on the death penalty was lifted, it was learnt yesterday. Intelligence agencies have apparently shared information with the Interior Ministry. According to reports, banned militant outfits, such as Al Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) plan to stage terror attacks and execute high-profile hostages if TTP militants on death row are executed.
135 suspects held in Karachi
Islamabad: Karachi police said yesterday they had arrested 135 suspects from various parts of the city in the past 24 hours. Police said those arrested included 30 who had been absconding and proclaimed offender and those allegedly involved in robberies, car thefts and other crimes. Agencies
