Typhoon “Chedeng” (international name Maysak) is expected to weaken further as it nears landfall, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In a radio interview with DZBB, Jun Galang of PAGASA said that there is a possibility that Public Storm Warning Signals will be lowered tonight, April 2.

The typhoon is yet to affect the country until tomorrow morning.

PAGASA expects “Chedeng” to make a landfall in the eastern coast of Isabela-Aurora, late morning of Sunday (April 5) and to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility via Ilocos Sur by Monday (April 6).

As of 4 p.m., it was located at 970 kilometers East Southeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. It is forecast to move Northwest at 15 kph.

“Moderate to strong winds coming from the Northeast to Northwest will prevail over the Eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon, of Visayas, and of Mindanao with moderate to rough seas. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming the East to Northeast with slight to moderate seas”, PAGASA said.
