Doha, Qatar: Residents preparing to leave a property should submit a final clearance request when moving out or when they need to settle and close their electricity and water account, a Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) official has explained.

Sheikha Nasaf Al Mohannadi, First Supervisor of Subscriber Care in the Subscriber Services Department at Kahramaa said the final clearance request formally notifies the corporation that a subscriber intends to vacate a property or terminate electricity and water services.

Speaking in an interview with Qatar TV, Al Mohannadi explained that the request is used to determine the date on which the services will be disconnected, take the final meter readings and issue the subscriber’s final bill.

She said the appropriate time to submit the request is when the subscriber is moving out of the property or wants to settle and close the account.

The procedure is particularly relevant to tenants leaving a home, as completing the final settlement ensures that electricity and water consumption associated with their account is calculated up to the final reading.

Kahramaa’s official guidance states that after electricity and water services are disconnected, final meter readings are taken to prepare the account-closing report.

The subscriber must then settle the outstanding amount based on those readings, after which a clearance certificate can be issued for the closed account.

Al Mohannadi also highlighted the different channels available to subscribers for submitting the request.

She said Kahramaa has provided several options so subscribers can choose the most convenient method.

The final clearance request can be submitted through the Kahramaa mobile application or its website, as well as in person at the main Subscriber Services branch in Al Hilal or through Kahramaa service points at government service complexes. The availability of digital channels forms part of Kahramaa’s broader effort to move customer transactions online.

The corporation says customers can access its electronic services through its website and mobile application, allowing a range of transactions to be completed without visiting a service centre.

Kahramaa’s latest Customer Services Manual, issued in October 2025, also lists final settlement certificates among certificates available electronically through its website and mobile application.

The corporation’s Customer Services Department was recognised earlier this year when it won the Outstanding Performance Award for customer service departments across GCC countries, specifically for handling complaints and service requests. Kahramaa said the recognition reflected its use of smart systems and advanced mechanisms to improve customer communication and service efficiency.

Kahramaa has also reported improvements in its customer-service indicators. Its sustainability reporting showed a decline in social-media complaints and an average complaint-resolution time of 2.3 hours, while customer satisfaction stood at 76 percent. The corporation said its customer-service hub and mobile application were among measures intended to further improve the customer experience.
