RAWALPINDI: The deadly assault on the Dera Ismail Khan prison by highly trained militants has raised fears about the security of four prisons in Punjab, including the Central Jail Adiala which is housing 65 militants belonging to banned outfits. “None of the inmates belonging to the banned outfits or involved in terrorism cases could be shifted to any other prison due to the security situation. However, the jail authorities have been considering carrying out a mock exercise jointly by the army, police and the prison security staff to check the security preparedness,” a senior police officer said, requesting anonymity.
US strike kills 5 Afghan cops
KABUL: Afghanistan’s Nato-led force has launched an investigation into the accidental killing of five Afghan policemen in a US air attack during an overnight operation, the force said yesterday. Afghan special forces called for air support during a clash with Taliban fighters at a police check-point, said Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the governor of the eastern province of Nangarhar, where the incident happened. “A US aircraft engaged, inadvertently killing five Afghan National Police members and wounding two,” said Master Sergeant Bryan Gatewood, a spokesman for the Nato-led force. “An investigation is ongoing to determine additional details of this unfortunate incident.”
None on Afghan war logs died
