DOHA: The Intellectual Property Center at the Ministry of Business and Trade confiscated counterfeit products worth QR1.5m during a campaign launched over the last six months.
The Center conducted 70 surprise raids during this period in which 28 people selling counterfeit products were booked. The products seized from the illegal vendors included audio and video CDs and computer programmes, Al Sharq reported yesterday, quoting Roomi Sultan Al Nuaimi, an inspector at the Center.
The inspections focused on markets and shopping areas, where such products were being sold earlier.
Souq Haraj in Najma and the souq area were two major spots in the city, where such products were seized in large quantities in the past.
However, during the six-month campaign, the Center has come across only 38 cases, involving 28 vendors, five audio and video products and five computers with pirated programmes.
Al Nuaimi added that the sale of counterfeit products in the country has declined significantly following a massive crackdown by the Ministry.
