Group F favourites Belgium have confirmed Hilton Salwa as their home during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
“It is now official. The contract has been signed by all parties. The Red Devils will not stay in Doha itself during the next World Cup in Qatar, but in Abu Samra, about 100 kilometres southwest of the capital. At the Hilton Salwa, the Belgian delegation will have its own wing and can prepare for matches in peace and privacy,” the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) has announced on its official web site.
At Hilton Salwa, the ‘Red Devils’ will enjoy perfect training conditions with several sports halls, an indoor swimming pool for post-match recovery and two new training pitches, the RBFA said in a statement.
“The fact that these pitches are located within the complex made the choice of this base camp very easy. Each player will have a spacious and very comfortable room overlooking the Persian Gulf. In addition, there are sufficient relaxation and meeting rooms, a private outdoor pool and a beach,” the statement said.
“We are very pleased that we were able to find a base camp that will allow us to train without travelling on a daily basis. We were looking for that set up and the opportunity to have some good outdoors space, and that is the case in The Hilton Salwa,” Belgium coach Roberto Martinez said ahead of their UEFA Nations League match against the Netherlands, yesterday.
After four years at the top of the FIFA World Rankings, Belgium are currently placed second in the list.
However, in their 15th appearance in the FIFA World Cup finals, the Red Devils are clear favourites to reach the top of Group F which also includes Canada, Morocco and 2018 finalists Croatia.
Belgium will take on Canada in their opening Group F fixture on November 23 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
They will meet Morocco in their second match on November 27 at Al Thumama Stadium before taking on their European counterparts Croatia on November 29 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
