Doha, Qatar: Qatar will embark on a 17-day training camp in Austria as they gear up for a crucial phase of the fourth round of the AFC Asian Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Head coach Julen Lopetegui yesterday announced a 30-man squad for the camp, which will be held from July 11 to 27.
The squad features a blend of youth and experience, including veteran captain Hassan Al Haydos, who recently reversed his international retirement to rejoin the national team.
The intensive training camp will provide the Spanish tactician with an opportunity to implement his vision and fine-tune the team’s strategies.
Al Annabi are also scheduled to play two international friendly matches against opponents yet to be announced.
The team’s primary focus remains on the qualifiers set for October 8, 11, and 14, where Qatar will compete against five other nations — Iraq, Oman, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates — for a direct ticket to the global showpiece.
The six teams will be split into two groups of three, with the winner of each group securing automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals. The second-placed sides will advance to the fifth and final round of qualification. The fourth-round draw will be held on July 17, with matches kicking off in October.
