Doha: The Ministry of Labour yesterday organised a meeting with their Excellencies the Ambassadors of Western states and labour-sending countries, with the aim of informing them of the latest developments regarding the work environment in Qatar.

The convention of the meeting comes within the framework of the Ministry of Labour’s keenness to maintain continuous communication with the various ambassadors of the world to the country, and to review the legislative developments and updates and its executive mechanisms that have been implemented over the past years to improve the work environment.

Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri affirmed that Qatar has dealt seriously with all constructive proposals with regard to improving and upgrading the work environment in line with the principles of Qatar National Vision 2030, a commitment to building a modern and dynamic labour market.

He noted that Qatar is one of the few countries that has opened the doors for all international organisations to see the pioneering experience in improving labour legislation and its implementation mechanisms, stressing the continuation of the policy of openness to all international organisations interested in the labour sector.

The Minister said that Qatar has nothing to hide from the world regarding expatriate workers, the labour reforms implemented during the past ten years made it one of the pioneering countries at the level of work in adopting a sustainable approach to improving and upgrading the work environment even after the organisation of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

He indicated that the smear campaigns, despite their ferocity, are limited and their motives and who drives them are known, pointing out that these suspicious campaigns will not deter us from organising a historic World Cup in Qatar.

The Minister praised the distinguished coordination between the Ministry of Labour and labour-sending countries and the bilateral meetings that had a positive impact on improving the conditions of expatriate workers in Qatar, noting the visits organised by trade unions to Qatar, which contributed to conveying the truth to the world about the conditions of workers in Qatar.

He highlighted the close partnership with the International Labour Organisation and many other international organisations, which contributed to supporting and promoting development in the work environment in Qatar.
